A Message of Hope from Bonzo.....

With a lot of interest shown in my injury and therefore a lack of pace, power and points on the pitch this last month I thought I ought to give you an update on my condition and impending return.

Due to my crunching tackle to save the game against Castleford I have officially damaged my abductors???? And looks like I will be out for a further two or three weeks or until the excruciating pain, that nobody else can imagine or has endured, subsides. (I can hear you all say aaaaaahhhhh).

Yes, I may have gained a little weight although I am sure I have got away with it and nobody seems to have noticed even though I have reached my Christmas fighting weight a couple of months early.

I heard our young scrum half charged a kick down and secured the game on Saturday………he obviously is not putting enough hard work in around the pitch if he still as the energy to run out form under the posts!! I am usually doubled up gasping for breath after running my goolies off and probably making a last ditch attempt to flatten the try scorer.

I must apologise to the scrumhalf after I heard he had to have a belt around his shirt to stop it flapping about in the wind but I pride myself on pumping iron and attaining the large physique that Schwarzenegger would be proud of.

With me having a clean sheet as far as YELLOW CARDS are concerned it saddens me that three of you have let the side down! As you know I pride myself on the discipline of the game and respect shown to rules and officials who give their time for the good of this glorious game……tut, tut, tut. Please try and improve this situation and pay your dues immediately.

During my time away from the game I have been looking at non Subscription Payments on a couple of you and am preparing a name and shame list and this goes for those who have had a shirt and not paid. If you would like to order a shirt please let me know the collar size and pay your £12.

See you soon

Second 2nd XV Game 7/10/06

Oaks 2nd XII 31 - 38 Sheffield

Refusing to follow any regular conventions Oaks second team had seven men at three o'clock on Saturday, negotiations between the captains and referee Whittaker evened the sides up to twelve aside with the game shortened to 60 mins to prevent any of the older players actually dying. The adjustments led to an open, flowing, and knackering game to entertain ten men and a dog.

Oaks had the best of early possession and took an early 10-0 lead with tries from Ross on his Oaks debut and one of loan players. The game took an early twist as a Sheffield player was unable to carry on due to injury and took over ref duties, leading to Ticker pulling on the blue and white of Sheffield to take his place. This appeared to balance the sides of to greater extent and the game went into a tug of war as each side took the lead and then were pegged back.

Sheffield proceeded to play a direct game though a couple of their forwards and Oaks stuck to the tried and tested champagne rugby, scoring one 80 yard break away and then the try of the match from Pesky. Playing at scrumhalf Nipper picked the ball up just inside the Sheffield half where he found Pesky, Stumpy and Kev ready to rip through the defence, the ball went through all hands and then back again as defenders were gradually taken out of the equation leaving Pesky to touch down under the posts - this was then converted by 'Super Second-Row' Kev.

The scores were level at 31 a piece with Sheffield on the attack and Oaks knowing a kick to touch would end the game, the ball popped out of a ruck and Pesky attempted to hack it away only for it find the hands of a Sheffield centre who cut through the Oaks defence handing the game to the visitors. A draw would have been a much better reflection on the game and hopefully there will be a chance for a rematch to even the scores.

Old Mods Cup Game 7/10/06

Mods 8 - 17 Sheffield Oaks

Sorry not to have been too active on the blog for a couple of weeks - I think most people are aware why so I won't bore you withthe details.....

In my absence from the playing side I will rely more on people giving match reports etc. so please send these to sheffieldoaks@tiscali.co.uk and I'll make sure they get published.

Here's the report from last Saturday's game - cheers Stew(?)

After a string of injuries that had put us on the back foot it was great to have the first team back up to full strength due to a complement of new players. Gee'd on by the sniff of cash we headed up to Leeds to play Old Moderainians in the first round of the EDF Junior Vase. After starting well a certain penalty try was not given and the poor decisions by the ref only got worse and more frequent. The first half saw tenacious defence and great commiment everywhere enabling us to go into second half in the lead. The second half started with same intensity. After some more interesting decions by the ref that saw three of our players sin-binned they finally scored under the posts only to have their convesion brilliantly charged down by Chris. Despite only playing 10 minutes with a full 15, great defence and commitment saw us hold off a number of assults on our line. Finally we turned our defence into attack and two barnsorming runs from Fretts and a great try from Stenny we secured a 17-8 win and some cash for the kitty. Man of the match and boob of the match was a difficult decision as everyone played so well. But 'man of the match' went to Chris for his charge down and 'boob of the match' went to Stefan for his attempted chargedown of a penalty attempt!!

Well done to everyone and quick reminder training is on Wednesday 6:15pm under lights!! For those eager beavers we also meet for a run/jog from the club house at 6:15pm on a Monday at 6:15pm as well.
