Mosborough Game 21/10/06

Sheffield Oaks 3 - 3 Mosborough

I think the scoreline says most about this game.......not the greatest display of rugby ever witnessed.

It was a perfect day conditions wise for Oaks to entertain the visitors from the other side of the city. This is about the closest we get to a local derby these days so there was something for both sides to prove with league points needed in both camps.

We were once again forced into some pretty wholesale changes due to injuries and players being unavailable for whatever reason. It was a scratch front row, with Selly gracing us with his presence here - for a few minutes anyway - a new young hooker, a debutante winger and outside half from Uni, No. 10 was unfortunately injured late in the game, so best wishes go out to him. It was going to take a while for the side to settle into a playing pattern with so many new faces, and this never really happened to be fair. We struggled to win any first phase ball, both scrum and lineout were under pressure from the off and the combination of an inexperienced hooker throwing in to players he hardly knew didn't help the situation any. The one good thing we should take from this game is the way that the forwards managed to clear out bodies in the rucks and mauls which we have failed to do effectively this season.

Mosborough showed and offered nothing that should have worried us, and their first penalty kick attempt was more like a David Beckham effort than a Jonny Wilkinson kick. It barely left the floor which was a let off. The next time he tried though, we were 3 points down in the game. We could have had a couple of tries if people were more aware of players around them and we had a little more luck on our side, territorially we were certainly on top for large periods of the game. We equalised through a penalty from Jim, and from then on the game seemed to take an age to get to the final whistle. From the sidelines, a draw seemed to be the fair result as neither team seemed capable of securing a victory.

Man of the Match - Stew....they picked him, not us!?!?
Boob of the Match - Jonno....yellow card fever

I will be out of commission for a couple of weeks now, so please send any comments on games to the email address and I'll get them on the blog ASAP.
